Whither Weather: The rain poured, the wind blew, the snow fell. . . . Another week of wild weather in the Valley wreaked havoc on the streets and freeways but treated us to the beauty of snow-covered mountains and the brilliance of a midday rainbow.

Winners . . . CSUN students won the right to use the campus Internet service as a political soapbox when a judge ruled that the university cannot employ its new policy on computer use to ban political expression. . . . An attorney for the CSUN senior who sued said, “This is what the 1st Amendment is all about.”

Losers . . . The up-and-down ride for supporters of the proposed Valley subway ended abruptly when a key MTA committee voted against extending the subway from North Hollywood through the Valley to Woodland Hills. . . . The vote makes it unlikely that Valley residents will ever travel cross-town underground.

The Week Ahead: After a long haul of earthquake repairs and retrofitting, Glendale’s main post office, at 313 E. Broadway, will finally reopen Tuesday morning. . . . Since the Northridge quake three years ago, the main office has been operating out of temporary quarters at 339 Central Ave. The interim office was shuttered Friday night, though post office boxes there will be accessible until 1 p.m. today.
