YORBA LINDA — The gift shop at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace has stocked its shelves with cuff links, mugs and paperweights bearing the official inaugural seal as it prepares to celebrate President Clinton’s swearing-in Monday for a second term in the White House.
The inauguration will be shown live on a large-screen television set up in the lobby for the historic event.
Kevin Cartwright, spokesman for the Nixon Library, said the museum is participating in the celebration to honor both Clinton, who has participated in several programs in connection with the library, and President Nixon, who had a particular fondness for inaugurals.
“President Nixon always said inaugurals were a great renewal for America,” Cartwright said. “And he said that specifically of the Kennedy inaugural just after he was narrowly defeated.”
It is also in keeping with the museum’s mission--to highlight historic events surrounding the presidency, he said.
