Rewards Offered for Clues in Slaying

With few clues to go on in the slaying of a 37-year-old man earlier this month, authorities hope to jog memories--and open a few more leads--by offering a $25,000 reward.
Peter John Maloney was walking alone along Riverside Drive at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 10 when he was gunned down in what appears to be a robbery attempt.
Maloney, who was returning home from buying groceries, died at the scene. His attacker, described by witnesses as wearing black pants and a black-hooded sweatshirt, escaped on a yellow 10-speed bicycle, said North Hollywood police detectives.
In addition to the City Council’s $25,000 reward, the Los Angeles Citizens Crime Commission, an anti-crime group, offered $2,500 Thursday for information leading to the arrest of the attacker.
About 50 people, including City Council President John Ferraro, who represents the area, attended a news conference in Toluca Lake to announce the rewards. People with information should call North Hollywood homicide detectives at (818) 756-8831.
