Many Seniors Log Off

Senior citizens are just as likely to own many of the latest electronic gadgets as the rest of the population, but are less likely to own computers, according to a recent survey by an electronics industry trade group.
Senior households and all U.S. households had nearly the same ownership rates for color televisions, CD players for the home and car, and camcorders, according to a survey conducted by the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Assn.
But while 40% of all U.S. households have a computer, only 28% of senior households have one. And seniors--defined as Americans 50 and older--are less likely to own pagers. About 28% of all households have a pager, but just 8% of senior households have one.
The telephone survey of 500 seniors was designed by the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers group but was compiled by the Verity Group of Fullerton.
