Jewish Group to Host Its Annual Breakfast

A noted civil rights advocate and a leader in the Asian business community will speak Thursday at a breakfast meeting of the Valley Jewish Business Leaders Assn.
The annual breakfast in honor of brotherhood month is designed to bring together views “from different walks of life,” said Marilyn Bloom of the association.
The speakers are Joe Hicks, executive director of the Multicultural Collaborative of Los Angeles, and Rod Nakamoto, chairman of the Asian Business League of Southern California.
Hicks drew attention in September for his role in an affirmative action debate at Cal State Northridge. He was asked by the college’s student government to debate the issue with ex-klansman David Duke--a discussion that turned attention to Proposition 209, the civil rights initiative on the November ballot.
The breakfast is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Warner Center Marriott, 21850 Oxnard St. Admission is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers.
Reservations are required and may be made by calling Bloom at (818) 774-3331.
