Aftershock Rocks Site of Lethal Quake

A powerful aftershock jolted mountainous northeastern Iran as the toll from two earlier earthquakes rose to 72 dead and 200 injured, state-run Tehran radio said. It said the magnitude-5.7 aftershock was centered about 360 miles northeast of Tehran--the same area that was the epicenter of two quakes Tuesday measuring 5.4 and 6.1. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the aftershock, but even with the aid of mountain climbers, relief workers were unable to reach some villages because of landslides and deep snow.
