Irvine Forfeits Basketball, Football Wins

Irvine High has forfeited nine nonleague boys’ basketball victories and will have to forfeit some football victories because school administrators failed to file the proper paperwork for a transfer student, boys’ basketball Coach Steve Keith said Thursday.
Principal Gail Richards said she was waiting for a review of game films to determine how many football games senior John Fudge, a transfer from Edison, participated in. The Vaqueros were 7-4 overall last fall.
Southern Section Assistant Commissioner Bill Clark confirmed the findings.
“Our athletic administration basically dropped the ball,” Keith said. “It’s pretty disappointing.”
Fudge can continue to play on the basketball team, Clark said. The Vaqueros’ basketball record dropped to 2-21.
