Sign-Ups Start for College Extension

Mission College is offering enrollment in 160 workshops and seminars as part of its spring Community Extension program.

Until classes are full, registration will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis. Most classes will begin Feb. 19 and be held at Granada Hills High School, Mission officials said.

New courses this spring include hat-making, how to run a successful business, Mediterranean cooking and an advanced film editing course with Avid, a digital film and video system.

Prospective students may register from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the extension office, located in Veterans Memorial Park, 13000 Sayre St., Sylmar, or, with a credit card, by calling (818) 364-7387 during the same hours.

Also at Mission, the campus’ Child Development Center announced the beginning of the Twilight Program, which will keep the center open until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Although the child-care center was once open until 10 p.m., budget cuts have necessitated closing it at 3:30 p.m. for the last several semesters, said Director Alice Lal. A recent increase in funding has allowed the center to expand its hours from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

The Child Development Center accepts children between the ages of 2 years and 9 months and 5 years old on a first-come, first-served basis. Fees are based on the family’s ability to pay.
