Good Ski Conditions for Holiday
California skiing conditions are generally excellent for the long Presidents’ Birthday weekend.
A light dusting of snow Tuesday night and continued favorable snow-making temperatures have kept six Southland ski areas--Bear Mountain, Snow Summit, Snow Valley, Mountain High, Ski Sunrise and Mt. Baldy--in good shape for the expected large holiday crowds. Base depths range from two to four feet, and most runs are open.
In the western San Gabriel Mountains, Snowcrest (formerly Kratka Ridge) plans to operate today through Monday with up to two feet on its slopes, but Mt. Waterman needs additional snow before it can reopen.
Mammoth Mountain, with an 11- to 15-foot base, is running nearly all of its lifts, and the situation is similar around Lake Tahoe and throughout the High Sierra.
