Demps Gets Offer He Can’t Refuse From San Diego

Highland High defensive back Will Demps has made a commitment to San Diego State after getting a late offer from the Aztecs on Friday.
Demps, a 6-foot-1, 212-pound senior, led the region with eight interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. He also had 44 receptions for 639 yards and scored 15 touchdowns.
“I enjoyed my visit and I like the coaches,” said Demps, who was invited to walk on at UCLA. “And they asked me what position I want to play.”
Push comes to shove: Win Hainbuch, Poly High’s second-year soccer coach, criticized the dismissal of junior midfielder Luis Luquin by a school administrator.
Assistant principal Heather Daims removed Luquin from the Poly soccer team after witnesses said he punched a Reseda player in the groin during post-match handshakes Wednesday.
Hainbuch said Luquin “got a poor deal.” Luquin told him he struck the player after that player spit in his face.
Catching on: Some eyebrows were raised last week when Palmdale High receiver Malosi Leonard accepted a scholarship offer from Arizona.
Leonard had only 14 catches for 246 yards last season, but seven of them went for touchdowns.
Leonard admits he was as surprised as anyone else when the Wildcats came calling.
Said Leonard, “I was just hoping to get into Division II.”
