Contract Awarded for New Police Station

After rejecting earlier bids as too high, the City Council on Monday awarded a Pasadena company a $10,046,000 contract to build the city’s new police station.
The council voted 5 to 0 to hire Shirley Bros. Inc., the low bidder, to build the 54,691-square-foot headquarters next to City Hall on the northwest corner of Tapo Canyon Road and Alamo Street.
Last month, the council rejected several bids--the lowest of them, $10.49 million, was 5% higher than the architect’s estimate of the job’s cost.
