* Re “Parents Seek Answers in Son’s Death,” March 19.
I feel compelled to write and try to help the family of Timoteo Silva. A year has passed since their son was found beaten and mutilated in a California Youth Authority cell. Such a gruesome death could have been prevented, I feel, if the Youth Authority had TV monitors in each of the cellblocks with a staff member constantly watching the screens. These types of monitors are in our jail systems. Why are they not in the Youth Authority’s system?
Our youths’ security and safety should be of the utmost importance to an agency to which they are entrusted.
