Archeologist to Lecture on Hittites

The Archaeological Institute of America’s Orange County Society will sponsor a program this weekend on the Hittite Empire, an advanced culture that evolved about 2000 BC.
Fierce soldiers, the Hittites battled on horseback with Egyptians led by Ramses the Great and helped lay the foundations of the Greek and Roman empires.
Elizabeth Carter, professor of Near East archeology at UCLA, is presenting the lecture, which is aimed at the general public rather than experts in archeology.
“It’s for people who are interested in things that came before them,” said Josephine Isenberg, spokeswoman for the archeology group.
Carter has directed excavations in Turkey since 1989. Before that, she spent 10 years doing research in Iran and Iraq.
The lecture will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lyceum at Southern California College, 55 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.
Admission is $5 for non-members and $2 for students.
