City Agrees to Pay for Home Appraisal
Hoping to steer clear of a possible conflict of interest, the city will pay for an appraisal of City Councilman John Wozniak’s house to determine whether he can vote on a development project.
State law prohibits council members from voting if a project lies too close to their homes and could substantially affect the value of their property.
Wozniak lives within 2,500 feet of a residential development project that will probably appear before the council this summer.
If the appraisal finds that the project’s fate could change the value of his home by $10,000 or more, Wozniak will not be able to vote on the matter.
The council Wednesday approved $1,250 for the appraisal. Wozniak did not participate in the vote.
A council subcommittee will also study whether appraisals should be done for city staff and planning commissioners.
