MISSION VIEJO — South County stargazers can get a closer look at Comet Hale-Bopp at a viewing party Monday at Saddleback College.
Astronomy professors Yong Kim and Mitch Haeri will open the college’s observatory so that visitors may see the comet through a high-magnification refracting telescope. Smaller telescopes will also be set up in parking lots 9 and 10 for public use.
The free comet party will start at 7 p.m. in the observatory atop the science and mathematics building. Saddleback College is two blocks east of Interstate 5 at 28000 Marguerite Parkway.
