Women Need to Be Fans of Women’s Sports

In response to the bitter, accusatory letter written by Mary Shelton in which she declares that, “Maybe if women’s sports got half the attention and money that was thrown away on men’s sports, more people would watch,” she is missing a major point.
There are more women than men in this country, yet the number of these women who actively support women’s sports is much lower than the number of men who support men’s sports. Until many millions of women are willing to consistently support women’s sports by attending and watching them on television, most of the money and attention will continue to be focused on the men. Don’t expect men to have much of an interest in women’s sports if the majority of women have little or no interest themselves.
