With more than 50 murals, the Estrada Courts Housing Project in Boyle Heights has a national reputation for outdoor art. On Thursday it will strengthen its artistic fame when six new murals are dedicated at the new Estrada Courts Community Center.
The Social and Public Art Resource Center will unveil the 8- by 9-foot digitally produced murals at 2:30 p.m. during a ceremony that will include live entertainment and refreshments.
The murals were created by the center’s founder, Judith Baca, students in her UCLA mural class and California Arts Council artist-in-residence Alma Lopez. The artworks depict scenes from daily life in the projects.
