Finding the Right Club to Improve Your Stride

Whether you’re an experienced runner or just getting started, there are several clubs in the region that hold weekly workouts during the summer months. The following is a list of some of them.

* Conejo Track Club: The club conducts workouts three times a week at various sites. On Tuesdays, they meet at Conejo Creek Park North at 5 p.m. On Saturdays, they meet at club members’ homes for runs at 8 a.m. On Sundays, they meet at the Cal Lutheran track at 7:30 a.m.

* Future Track: Workouts are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. at Agoura High. Agoura cross-country Coach Bill Duley trains club members.

* High Desert Runners: Members can work out at Antelope Valley College from Monday-Thursday at 6 p.m. if they are enrolled in Mark Covert’s aerobic conditioning (running) class at the college.

* San Fernando Valley Track Club: Laszlo Tabori, who in 1957 became the third man in history to break the four-minute mile, is the long-time coach of this Burbank-based club. Workouts are held at Burroughs High on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday and Fridays at 6 a.m.

* Santa Clarita Runners: Workouts are held at College of the Canyons on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and at various sites on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Five-, seven- or 10-mile runs start at Granary Square in Valencia on Saturdays at 7 a.m. Members of the City of Santa Clarita Marathon team meet at Granary Square on Sundays for 7 a.m. workout.

* Team Inside Track: Gary Tuttle, a national-class distance runner in the 1970s, is coach of the Ventura-based club which holds workouts at Ventura High every Tuesday and Thursday from July 15-August 28 at 5:40 p.m.
