Smoker on Oxygen Faces Eviction

John Womack, 67, hooked up to oxygen 24 hours a day and dying of emphysema, learned that in addition to costing his health, his cigarette habit may cost him his home of 10 years. The new owner of his apartment complex told him to leave by July 1 after learning that he still smokes six cigarettes a day despite being on oxygen. Officials say they’re concerned a spark could ignite the oxygen and cause a fire. “He creates a real and present danger not only to himself but to everyone else,” said attorney Dale Henry, who represents M Streets Properties, which owns the Martel Manor Apartments.
