Olivia Ayala, the new Miss Costa Mesa, introduced herself to officials Monday and said she is honored to represent her city.
“I am really looking forward to this year,” Ayala, 18, told the City Council. “If anybody needs any help, let me know.”
Ayala is a vocalist who plans to release her first album this summer. She just completed her freshman year at Cal State Long Beach.
“I think she’ll be the next Selena; that’s how good she is,” said Costa Mesa Police Chief David L. Snowden, who enjoys Ayala’s bilingual pop songs.
She will perform at the Orange County Fair from 4 to 6 p.m. July 11 in the Youth Building; from 5 to 7 p.m. July 25 in the Floral Building; and from 5 to 7 p.m. July 27 in the Visual Arts Building.
Ayala, who was crowned recently at the annual Fish Fry and Parade, replaces last year’s Melanie Long, a 22-year-old merchandise marketing major at American College in Los Angeles. After winning her title, she competed in the Miss California contest.
