City Seeks Right to Maintain Santa Monica Boulevard

The West Hollywood City Council has directed its transportation staff to proceed with efforts to take control of the three-mile strip of Santa Monica Boulevard that runs through the city.
Currently the state owns and operates the roadway, but the city wants the responsibility so it can implement much needed improvements and reduce traffic congestion, said Lucy Dyke, transportation manager. Dyke said maintaining the busy street would run the city about $580,000 annually, a cost that would likely require a voter-approved tax measure or maintenance fee.
