Elway Expected Back in Time for Opener

Associated Press

John Elway should be ready to play in time for the Denver Broncos’ season opener against Kansas City on Aug. 31, trainer Steve Antonopulos said. Tests confirmed that the 37-year-old quarterback suffered a torn tendon in his throwing arm during the Broncos’ 38-19 loss to Miami at Mexico City on Monday night. He is expected to be sidelined for two to four weeks.

Baltimore Raven running back Bam Morris is expected to be suspended for the first four games of the season after his second violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy.

WBFF-TV and WBAL, both in Baltimore, and Fox Sports News all quoted unidentified team sources as saying Morris told teammates he had failed a mandatory drug test several months ago, but learned he had lost his appeal only this week.

Raven officials declined comment on the reports.
