Boston Review Was Way Off-Key

Re Jon Matsumoto’s review “Hey, Boston: Don’t Look Back” (Aug. 11):
It is not my intention to degrade Matsumoto’s writing abilities or his abilities to cover a musical concert. I’m sure his folks spent tons of money providing him with the best education possible. However, I attended the “Boston” concert at the Pond in Anaheim and have a complete difference of opinion. . . .
I am 35 years old, and it is very rare [with three children] that I am allowed to listen to music I enjoyed in my earlier days. It’s no secret it was a different genre. To use his choice of words, I could easily be described as “gracious but dull.”
I (and others) completely enjoyed every musical note from Mr. “singular vision” Tom Scholz, “colorless” Brad Delp and “Delp clone” Fran Cosmo. I only wish they would have sounded this good in concert back in 1979 where I first saw them in New Orleans.
It is a rare day when we “old-time rockers” can enjoy a few fond memories with a truly good band. Maybe Matsumoto should leave these concerts to some of the “good ol’ boys” in the office. He can limit himself to the No Doubt tours.
