A cluster of candles will be lit at a bustling Koreatown intersection at noon today as part of a vigil for three elderly Korean Americans who died after being hit by a bus at Vermont Avenue and Olympic Boulevard.
The vigil will honor Jae Sil Kim, 80, Sam Suck Yang, 78, and Soon Yi Young, 63, who were killed last week.
“The family expressed their wish to have a quiet ceremony and remembrance of their parents and grandparents,” said Peter Park, executive director of the L.A. Koreatown Multi-Purpose Senior Center, which organized the memorial.
The Los Angeles police investigation into the accident is continuing and may be concluded by the end of next week, investigators said. The few witnesses who saw the accident are not sure whether the bus entered the intersection on a green, yellow or red traffic signal, said Det. Mike Fischer.
