Chelsea Fancier Denies Gun Charge

A man who wrote a number of letters to President Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, pleaded not guilty to charges of keeping a handgun in a safe deposit box near the White House. Vladimir Zelenkov, a Russian immigrant, was arraigned on charges he kept a .38 caliber semiautomatic pistol and 156 rounds of ammunition in the box he had rented. Judge Mildred Edwards ordered Zelenkov, 25, who lives in Elizabeth, N.J., to be held without bond pending a hearing. She also ordered Zelenkov to undergo mental tests to establish whether he is competent to stand trial.
