SYLMAR — Police were hunting Monday for a gunman who fatally shot two youths outside a Sylmar home.
Nick Frontuto, 20, and Victor Rosa, 18, were attacked Sunday at about 3:30 a.m. outside a house in the 13000 block of Almetz Street where they were visiting relatives, said Det. Frank Bishop of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill station.
When they left the house, they were confronted by a man who shot them after a brief confrontation, police said.
Frontuto died in the house and Rosa died later at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.
Police had no suspects Monday but were following leads, including reports that the assailant tried to rob the two men first.
So far, there was no indication the shooting was gang-related, Bishop said.
“We’ve heard those rumors, too, and we are following leads,” he said.
There was no clear description of the assailant except that he was wearing dark clothing, said Det. Patty Ferguson.
“That’s all we have,” she said.
