Mother Again Calls for Reward to Find Killer

In her third appearance before the City Council, Bobbi Gorena this week renewed her plea for a reward she contends could help lead to a conviction in her son’s killing.

Gorena’s son, Troy, 16, was stabbed to death last year on a street corner in the southwest part of town. Police arrested two men who denied being involved in the slaying. The suspects were released when an informant recanted her testimony that linked them to the killing.

Offering a reward, Gorena said, might persuade a witness to come forward with information about her son’s slaying. Two mothers of other slaying victims also asked the council to put up a reward.

Council members, however, said they don’t believe a reward would be helpful. Police said it might even produce false testimony and hurt the credibility of the witness in court.

Still, Gorena, who has raised about $4,000 in private donations for a reward, said she will continue to ask for funds.
