Construction of School to Ease Crowding to Begin

Construction of an elementary school that will alleviate overcrowding in the Hawthorne School District is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks, district officials said.
District officials plan to spend $5.3 million to build the school, using funds from Proposition 203, the Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 1996, and a local property tax measure, at El Segundo Boulevard and Kornblum Avenue.
During the first phase of construction, 15 classrooms will be built. Another 18 classrooms will be added in the future, according to Pam Fees, director of business services.
The school, which is scheduled to be completed in 1999, will serve 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
