A hitchhiker stabbed a Ventura man in the chest after he failed to give her money, police said.
Martin Boren, 52, suffered a minor wound and was treated at Ventura County Medical Center and released after the Thursday night incident, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Boren told police he was driving in the area of Ventura Avenue and Warner Street when he was stopped by an unidentified woman in her 30s who requested a ride to her home a short distance away.
Once in the car, the woman demanded money. When Boren told her he didn’t have any, the woman stabbed him with what police said may have been a knife.
She then got out of the car, cutting the front tire in an attempt to disable the vehicle, police said.
Boren drove to a pay phone and called police, who searched the area unsuccessfully for the assailant.
