Marrow, Blood Drive Unites Community
The bone marrow and blood drive held for Westlake Village resident Joe Haskin by the City of Hope and United Blood Services at St. Jude Church on Dec. 7 received an overwhelming response by hundreds of concerned people. Some are privileged to call Joe Haskin a friend and others have never met him.
I was moved by the compassionate reaction and participation. It was such an astounding turnout that the volunteer staff could not accommodate the number of walk-ins, who put their names on a waiting list for the next drive.
We pray and hope that the blood marrow drive is a success and Joe will overcome his condition of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. For the moment, however, we succeeded as a collaborative community.
We have been told it takes a village. We are fortunate, and should be proud, that ours is Westlake and the Conejo Valley area.
