Recycler to Give Museum $20,000

In a show of Christmas spirit, the operator of the Del Norte Recycling Center announced this week it would give a $20,000 grant to an Oxnard children’s museum.

The money, given by BLT Enterprises, will go to the Ventura County Gull Wings Children’s Museum at 418 W. 4th St.

The museum has interactive exhibits for children. Exhibits include a Saturn cutaway car and theater area with a TV camera where children can dress up in costumes and perform.

Mary Anne Rooney, president of the board of directors of the museum, was thrilled at the news.

“We need financial help,” Rooney said. “It’s just a wonderful Christmas present for the children of Ventura County. They told us they were interested in helping, but we did not realize it would be this magnitude of giving.”

Rooney said they would use the money to increase the quality of the exhibits.

Burnie Huberman, president of BLT Enterprises, said his company has a philosophy of giving back to the community. The company began work in Oxnard in August 1996, when the Del Norte Recycling Center opened.

“We really felt that this was a great place for us to share some of our wealth in the community,” Huberman said. “We were touched by what they are doing for the little children.”
