A man who robbed an Oxnard sporting goods store Monday morning may have been hiding inside the store overnight, waiting for employees to arrive, authorities said.
Two employees entered the Sportmart at 2301 N. Rose Ave. at 6:30 a.m. to open the store, when they were confronted by a man with a handgun.
The robber demanded that the employees open the safe and took an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise before exiting through a delivery door in the rear of the store. He fled on foot into an alley behind the store. No shots were fired.
Police described the suspect as a Latino male, 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a stocky build.
He was wearing a black ski mask, a black Nike sweater, black faded jeans, black leather and suede gloves and black Nike shoes with a red swoosh. He spoke both English and Spanish.
