Group Seeks Help Checking on Residents

The John Henry Foundation, which provides independent living arrangements and other services for the mentally ill, is looking for at least 20 volunteers to check on residents.
Hank Lamb, the director of program development for the foundation, said residents are encouraged to achieve an independent life. But they frequently need a reminder to take their medicine, and sometimes they could use help with daily activities, he said.
The foundation, with offices in Garden Grove, operates eight homes throughout Orange County. Residents have their own bedrooms but share common areas of the house.
Besides the housing program, the foundation’s $800,000 annual budget also provides counseling and support groups. But finances are always a problem, said Lamb, who also is requesting donations to fix one home’s roof and to buy computer equipment.
