Missouri’s Stewart Gets 700th College Victory

ST. LOUIS — Norm Stewart got his 700th career college coaching victory Tuesday night when Missouri defeated Illinois, 75-69, in a nonconference game before a sellout crowd of 22,371 at Kiel Center.
Stewart is third in victories among active coaches, trailing Mount St. Mary’s James Phelan (775) and Indiana’s Bob Knight (706).
Stewart is 700-355 in 37 seasons--31 at Missouri and six at Northern Iowa. He is also 12th in victories among college coaches, regardless of classification.
Albert White, a transfer from Michigan who became eligible at semester break, had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Missouri (6-4).
Illinois (8-4) shot 33%.
