On Sunday, Spanish-speaking families will have their first chance to enjoy one of Kenneth Feld’s splashy, Disney-themed ice shows in that language in Orange County.
Voice-overs and songs for the 4:30 p.m. performance of “Walt Disney’s World on Ice--Toy Story” in Anaheim will be presented in Spanish.
Also, all ushers, ticket-takers and box-office staff at that performance will speak Spanish, said Shannon Hebert, Los Angeles area marketing and sales director for show producer Feld Entertainment.
Hebert said a four-color insert that translates most of the program’s English text to Spanish will be available to ticket-holders at no extra charge.
Spanish performances will also be offered when the show moves to Long Beach and Los Angeles. Those will be Jan. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at the Long Beach Arena and Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the L.A. Sports Arena.
The content of the $8-million ice spectacular, which begins its Southland tour today at the Pond, is exactly the same as in the English performances, Hebert said.
“The Disney name is very strong in the Hispanic community . . . and ‘Toy Story’ is a very strong show,” Hebert said. “We want to offer our Spanish-speaking customers the same product.”
Hebert said Spanish versions of Walt Disney’s World on Ice shows have been offered sporadically in markets in Florida, Texas and parts of California and hopes to see them offered more frequently and in more markets.
