A Panorama City man was killed on the Harbor Freeway Tuesday night when an allegedly intoxicated motorist struck the man and then fled the scene, said California Highway Patrol spokesman John Tye.
Police said the victim might have been examining a 1984 Pontiac Fiero that was stopped in a southbound lane of the freeway when he was struck by a 1997 Ford sports utility vehicle driven by Charles Norman.
The victim’s name was not released Wednesday pending family notification of his death.
“We’re doing a check on the [Fiero],” Tye said. “We have reason to believe it was disabled.”
The Ford struck the victim, 30, and then the Pontiac about 11:10 p.m. just north of El Segundo, said Ken Ford, another CHP spokesman.
Norman, 59, allegedly fled the scene “extremely intoxicated” and police arrested him at home in Compton, Tye said.

Norman was charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony hit and run and felony DUI, said CHP Officer Karen Faciani.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Norman suffered minor injuries, including a head abrasion, Tye said.
