Production is booming, and box offices are setting records. But Hollywood execs are nervous because the cost of making movies has never been higher. Who would have thought it could cost $200 million to make a film, as it did for “Titanic”? Some of the questions being asked: Can Sony Pictures come close to matching its stunning turnaround in 1997 with help from “Godzilla”? Will Warner Bros. return from its deep slump? And how much will former Disney chief Jeffrey Katzenberg end up with in his breach-of-contract settlement with the studio? More important, how will he spend it?
