Access to Information

The Glendale Unified School District board, with the single exception of Chuck Sambar, is following the example of the Glendale City Council when it comes to informing the public.

Our City Council produces videos of itself hosting “Focus on Glendale,” “Speaking of Glendale,” “City Hall in Your Neighborhood,” “Larry Zarian’s Forum” and “Weaver’s Dog House,” rather than sharing with the public the meetings of the zoning administrator and our boards and commissions.

Now, the Glendale school board is about to vote against videotaping and televising its meetings and in favor of producing videos of school activities.

One would think that those we have elected to be responsible for educating our children would be familiar with the California Public Records Act, which states that “access to information concerning the conduct of the people’s business is a fundamental and necessary right of every person in this state.” Instead, it is clear that those we have elected to the Glendale Unified School District board, with the exception of Sambar, prefer to operate in as much darkness as legally possible.
