Move Costs Senior Lunch Program Some Participants

Nearly two dozen senior citizens who were participating regularly in a lunch program may have gotten lost in transit last month when the program had to be relocated because of renovations at the former site.
Only about 65 senior citizens have been showing up for lunch at Volunteers of America’s new kitchen at Bloomfield Park, compared with 85 before the move from Burns Community Center, where the county-funded program operated for 20 years.
“We worry about the people who don’t follow the group to the new location, but we expect we’ll probably find some new people,” said Donna Skinner, director of the charity’s Long Beach-area senior services.
For the next six months, Skinner said, lunch will continue to be served to seniors Mondays through Fridays at Bloomfield Park.
