Regarding your chart on “The Cost of a Movie Ticket” (Just the Facts, June 15): $17.58 for a movie ticket in Tokyo? True, but wait, there’s more!
For your $17.58, more often than not, you’ll get to line up in a sweltering unventilated stairway, sit with your knees bumping against the seat in front of you, attempt to decipher the dialogue emanating from a muffled sound system, and if you’re lucky enough to attend the last showing of the day, you may find that the theater owner has decided to save a few yen by shutting down the air-conditioning half an hour before the end of the feature.
