NATO Arrest
Re the arrest by NATO of Bosnian war criminal Milan Kovacevic (July 11), The Times reports “four plainclothes agents posing as Red Cross workers on a humanitarian aid mission walked into the hospital and took him into custody.” For military combatants to masquerade as Red Cross workers is a grave breach of the Geneva Convention.
Even when their goals are just, NATO forces are not entitled to commit war crimes. In doing so they endanger real medical personnel and enter the same perfidious territory as their opponents.
