Wells Stops Brewers, 8-0

MILWAUKEE — David Wells pitched a three-hitter for his 100th career victory and Paul O’Neill had four hits and four RBIs as the New York Yankees shut out Milwaukee, 8-0, Saturday.
Wells (10-4) pitched his second career shutout, both of them against the Brewers. He walked none and struck out four.
Fernando Vina hit a leadoff double in the first inning for Milwaukee, then Wells retired the next 12 batters. Jack Voigt doubled to start the fifth and Wells retired the next 12 in a row.
Pat Kelly hit a home run and Scott Pose had three of New York’s 14 hits. Jose Mercedes (3-5) lasted four innings, his shortest outing since losing to the Yankees on June 6.
