City, County Crews Contain Brush Fires

Small brush fires burned in Porter Ranch and Santa Clarita on Sunday, a day after a brush fire charred about 136 acres in Oak Park and Agoura Hills, officials said.

There were no injuries reported in either fire, both of which were contained by late Sunday, fire officials said.

At about 11 a.m., a fire was reported near Whites Canyon Road and the Golden State Freeway in Santa Clarita. About a quarter-acre was burned before the blaze was brought under control, said Art Marrujo, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman.

At 3:40 p.m., crews including 14 fire engines and three helicopters responded to a 3-acre fire near Tampa and Pine Valley avenues in Porter Ranch, said Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells. The fire was brought under control in an hour, Wells said.

Saturday’s brush fire in Agoura Hills was under control by late that day and there was no damage to homes, officials said. Only one fire engine remained on the scene Sunday morning as firefighters cleaned up the area, Marrujo said.

The fire left about 5,000 residents in Topanga Canyon without electrical power. All power was expected to be restored by late Sunday, officials said.
