Ventura Players Evicted From Apartment

VENTURA — Six Ventura College basketball players were evicted Wednesday morning from the three-bedroom apartment they share near campus.
The complex was the site of a racially motivated attack on Sept. 18 in which several players, all of whom are black, were subjected to racial taunts by people police identified as having gang affiliations.
Players said they were not given a reason for the eviction. Phone calls to the apartment’s management office were not returned.
“All they were told is that it was a non-rent issue,” Ventura assistant Jeff Theiler said. “Right now, we’re just working on trying to iron this thing out and find a place for them all to stay.
“Maybe then we can focus on basketball.”
