LAKEWOOD — Behind the running of Ryan Fuqua, who gained 331 yards and five touchdowns in 17 carries, Ontario Christian rolled over Brethren Christian, 35-14, in an Olympic League game Friday at Artesia High.
Fuqua scored on runs of 76, 63, 41, 15 and 85 yards.
“Fuqua is the best back in our league,” Brethren Christian Coach Bruce Eien said. “We put everybody we had on him, but we couldn’t stop him.”
With the score 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Warrior defense finally stiffened and stopped Ontario Christian (4-5, 3-1) on a fourth and one at their 39. Five plays later, Adrian Castillo carried the ball five yards for a score.
In the third quarter, Brethren Christian (3-6, 1-3) scored again on a four-yard run by Castillo, which had been set up by Justin Miller’s 71-yard pass to Joey Jopski. After that, Fuqua took over again, scoring once in the third quarter and again in the fourth.
“Our option worked very well all night,” Ontario Christian Coach Tom Hamming said. “Our fullback [Matt Bauer] did a great job in drawing the defense to him by running hard up the middle. This left Fuqua open to have a great night.”
Brethren was led by Castillo, who rushed for 140 yards in 32 rushes.
