Colorado College Ices Chapman Men in Soccer Playoffs

Colorado College’s Dan Morlan scored in the 110th minute Wednesday, giving the Tigers a 3-2 overtime victory over Chapman in the preliminary-round game in the NCAA Division III West Region men’s soccer playoffs at Colorado Springs.

With the victory, the third-seeded Tigers advance to the region’s championship round this weekend in Thousand Oaks to face top-seeded Macalester (Minn.) College.

Playing on a snow-covered field in freezing temperatures, Chapman led twice, scoring once in each half on goals by Jason Hospedales and Scott Martino. Colorado College (13-7) rallied each time to tie, before sending the game into overtime with the score tied 2-2.

In nonconference men’s soccer:

CS Northridge 5, UC Irvine 0--Aaron Linder had eight saves for Irvine, which was outshot by Northridge, 16-14. Northridge’s goals came from five players.

In women’s tennis:

UC Irvine’s Exon and Nasca advance--The Anteater’s Natalie Exon and Carla Nasca advanced in singles and doubles qualifying at the Rolex/ITA Southern California Women’s Tennis Regionals at UC Irvine.

Exon defeated UCLA’s Alyson Gray, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round to advance to the main draw. Nasca defeated UC Santa Barbara’s Shannon Wilkins, 6-0, 7-5. Exon and Nasca advanced in doubles when Melissa Dillard and Lauren Wagstaff (UCSB) defaulted.

Also advancing in singles was Cal State Fullerton’s Debbie Vonusa, who defeated UCI’s Alexis Brown, 6-1, 6-1. Diane Asis and Sara Arguilla of Long Beach State also advanced. The main draw in singles begins at 8 a.m. today, followed by doubles at 2 p.m.
