A Woman of Today

Why is it that male critics seem to have a problem with “Ally McBeal,” as in the case of Howard Rosenberg (“In Regards to ‘Ally,’ This Critic Says, ‘Oops,’ ” Nov. 3)? Personally I find this new show refreshing with a female lead who is not just there as a bimbo with another set of breast implants. There are already too many of those around and I don’t hear the critics cry out as loud.
Could it be that Ally is a more realistic flawed human being of today? She is not only smart, a professional, witty and attractive but also showcases her vulnerability, insecurity and her sometimes hypocrisy. She is a test of what it is to be a woman today. No longer perfect as portrayed in the early years of television. About time!
