Event to Kick Off Scout Center Project

The Brea Lions Scout Center Foundation will celebrate the beginning of plans to renovate Brea’s old City Hall into a Scout center.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the old city hall, in the 400 block of South Brea Boulevard.

The structure, established in 1927, is listed on both the state and national registers of historic places. Admirers are eager to see the building restored.

To kick off the project, all Scouts in uniform on Saturday will have the opportunity to swing a sledgehammer at a temporary building that is earmarked for removal. Others can take a swing in exchange for a donation. Sledgehammers, safety goggles and gloves will be provided.
