In other 3-A first-round games:
Chatsworth 26, South Gate 22--As time expired, South Gate fullback Edgar Curiel was stopped short of the goal line by a swarming defense to seal Chatsworth’s victory at South Gate.
Chatsworth (6-5) and South Gate (6-4) changed leads three times in the fourth quarter.
A scoreless first half gave way to a scoring flurry in the second half.
Trailing, 14-12, early in the fourth quarter, the Chancellors took a 19-14 lead on a 16-yard pass play from Matthew Cassel to Jorge Rocha with 10:49 to play.
South Gate scored again before Chatsworth came through with the decisive touchdown, a Cassel to Kieron Barkataki pass play with 3:51 remaining that capped a five-play 73-yard drive.
Cassel threw three touchdowns and completed 10 of 14 passes for 192 yards.
Eric Harris gained 104 yards in 23 carries, including a 29-yard run to give Chatsworth its first score.
Tight end Kevin Doty had three receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown. Rocha had four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown.
South Gate was paced by Jairo Garcia, who rushed for 198 yards in 31 carries, but did not score.
