A Westlake couple who pleaded guilty in August to failure to report $1.2 million in taxable income were sentenced to four months in federal prison Monday, according to the office of the United States attorney.
Akio Kawashima, 53, and Fusako Kawashima, 46, own Cho Cho San, a restaurant with outlets in Thousand Oaks and Tarzana, said Steve Linick, an assistant U.S. attorney. The couple admitted to making false statements on their restaurants’ tax return for the year ending Oct. 31, 1991.
In addition to prison time, the couple were sentenced to four months of home detention, during which they may leave their home only to work. The couple also must pay the Internal Revenue Service about $200,000, Linick said.
